How can i create multiple description fields in JPD?

As a space admin, I'd like to set the validation rule of checking the field input completeness when moving from one phase to another. Current JPD setting is a single description field, how can i create another description fields so that Idea statement, Insight and Metrics each takes up one description field?

I tried the create space field, but this only allow i select for short text field type and apparently insufficient space for the Idea statement, Insight and Metrics input.

Adding global Paragraph fields to JPD doesn’t actually work the way it does in standard Jira projects. JPD has its own field system, and custom fields are limited to short text (255 characters). There’s no way to add additional rich text or multi-line text fields beyond the built-in Description.

This has been a long-standing feature request in the community, and Tanguy from the JPD team has acknowledged it, but it hasn’t been implemented yet.

The official workaround from Atlassian is to use Description templates. You can set up a template within the Description field with clearly defined sections (e.g., Idea Statement, Insights, Metrics) that contributors fill in. To set this up: open an idea, click the Description field, and look for the template option to create your own structure.

It’s not the same as having separate fields with individual validation, but it’s the best option available in JPD today.

Hi @Trent Hui,

If you need separate long-text fields then the built-in JPD space fields may not be sufficient, as they are typically limited to shorter text field types.

In that case, you can ask your Jira Administrator to create new global custom fields of the Paragraph (multi-line text) type.

Once those fields have been created, you should be able to add them to your Jira Product Discovery project by selecting "Or add a global field" when configuring fields.

@Jens Schumacher - Released_so, acknowledge setting up the description template is an alternative at this moment, and in fact the above view is built from my custom description template.    

@Kevin Kadakas I'll seek my Jira Administrator help for the global field setup for the multi-line text type field.
