Contributors submitting tickets with a connect field

We have a project where contributors across the company submit tickets for products consideration. In the "form" I have a connection field for them to fill out but learned today this is a restriction for contributors to have access to fill out a connection field. Has anyone figured out a workaround or bandaid to this?

You might consider is Smart Forms for Jira, developed by my team. It can help here because contributors don’t need to interact with the restricted Jira field directly. You can build a form with a regular dropdown, radio button, multi-choice field, or text field, then use form-to-idea field mapping to create Jira product discovery idea with all the data entered inside form. 

For example:

1. Build a form and set up cretae new work item setting, than select you JPD project and connect form field to jira product discovery field, so when the form submitted info from form goes to correct field
2. Someone opens a Smart Form from a link, Confluence page, or Jira shortcut.
3. They select the product area from a simple dropdown.
4. The form creates the idea with the selected value mapped to an accessible Jira field, such as labels, component, product area, or a custom field.
5. This can be done by anyone without a contributor role
