Can I disable "On this Site" linking of connection fields for global Idea types in JPD?

I am working on a creating a vast Enterprise Portfolio discovery setup, and in this PoC I have types broken down into:

1- Ideas

2- Opportunities

3- Experiments

All 3 types are connected so I have the connection fields set, I also create multiple "Programs" that I model as JPD Spaces, and I surface programs in a "Portfolio" view which is modelled in JPD Roadmaps, so I created the item types as global fields in my site so they are both visible in Program Spaces and Portfolio Roadmaps.

My first problem, is that when I connect Idea-1 in Program-Space-A to Opportunity-1 in Program-Space-B, I cannot see Opportunity-1 on a board view in Program-Space-A.

I understand you can only see on a space board what was locally created in that space, and to view items from other spaces then a Roadmap Board view is essential.

My question here is can I view types from other spaces in my current space if I have the experimental JPD features (Trees, Hierarchies, etc.) enabled?

My second problem, is that when I attempt to link an idea to an Experiment, I have the option to link the idea with Experiments "On this Space" and "On this Site".

If the current space has no Experiments defined, then the default behavior is to see "On this Site" Experiments that are created in other spaces.

I want to disable this behavior while keeping Experiment type global so it can be surfaced in Roadmaps. Is this possible at all or Not? If yes, is it in native function of JPD or is it part of the experimental features of JPD?

If both of these issues are addresable within JPD Experimental features, then I would like to enable them ASAP and I request your assistance to do so.

Thanks in advance

Hi there! I'm not sure I caught all the details of your scenario, but here are the things that you can play with, as building blocks:

  • You create connection fields to represent "connect to ideas of this type across this list of spaces"
    • E.g. you can create an "Experiments" connection field that is set up to connect to ideas of type "Experiment" from spaces A and B.
    • You can add that field to space C
    • From space C you can now connect Opportunities to Experiments from spaces A and B
    • You can either choose the list of spaces you want to include, or choose to connect to any idea of that type
  • You can create a connection field in a space, or globally
    • E.g. you can create an "Experiments" connection field in space C
    • And another one called "Experiments" that is global, that you can add to any number of spaces and use in Roadmaps
    • As long as they point to the same idea type name, they can be used interchangeably.
      • For example, say you create an "Experiments" connection field in space C1 that you can use to connect to ideas of type Experiment in space A
      • And another "Experiments" connection field in space C2 that you can use to connect to ideas of type Experiment in space B
      • You can then create a global connection field "Experiments" that points to ideas of type Experiment in spaces A and B --> and you can use that one in a Roadmap.
      • In space C1 you'll see experiments from space A, in space C2 you'll see experiments from space B, in the Roadmap you'll see experiments from spaces A and B

Does that make sense? I can try and record a demo if that helps.

I have tried your suggestions and they do address other issues I am looking to fix, but my two original issues remain unaddressed.

If at all possible, I want to high the "On this Site" ideas from other spaces, while keeping the current connection field global since I need it in JPD Roadmaps

Also, is it possible for the experimental features of tree views and hierarchy views to show idea types from other spaces in the current space (i.e, showing ideas from a different space in a space they were not created originally)

Ok, then I'm afraid don't understand the question. Would you mind sharing a Loom (or something along those lines) where you walk through your setup and what's not working? I'll reply with the same. tcrusson@atlassian.com

Thank you!
