Anyone migrate from ProductBoard to JIRA Product Discovery?

We are currently using ProductBoard and this new boards thing is driving me absolutely insane - I am spending hours just trying to configure the new boards and I keep finding issues and gaps.

I'm wondering about the best way to migrate from one to the other?
I'm actually less worried about features and roadmaps, we can probably do that manually, than I am about insights - we have literally thousands and we cannot manually write them all up again.

Just wondering if there's any easy way to do this or if anyone has experience?

Hello,

Welcome to community :)

Step 1: Export Data from Productboard

  1. Export Insights/Features: Go to your Insights or Features section in Productboard and use the export option to download your data, typically to a CSV file, including relevant details like titles, descriptions, user feedback, and status.
  2. Export Roadmaps (Optional): You might need to manually export or recreate roadmap data within JPD, as direct roadmap migration can be complex.

Step 2: Prepare Data for JPD (CSV Transformation)

  1. Open CSV: Open your exported Productboard CSV in a spreadsheet tool (Excel, Google Sheets).
  2. Map Fields: Ensure your Productboard fields (e.g., "Importance," "Effort," "Customer Feedback") align with JPD's default fields or custom fields you create.

3. Clean Data: Standardize data formats, remove irrelevant columns, and fill in any missing required fields for JPD

Step 3: Import into Jira Product Discovery

  1. Access Import: In JPD, navigate to Filters > View all work items, then select the import/bulk change option (often a CSV icon or "Import issues from CSV").
  2. Follow Wizard: Use the import wizard to select your prepared CSV, map the columns to JPD fields, and complete the import process.
  3. Bulk Move (for existing Jira issues): If you have existing Jira issues (not Productboard), use JPD's "Bulk change all work items" feature to move them into your JPD space.

Step 4: Configure Integrations & Link Work

  1. Set Up Productboard-Jira Integration: Enable the native integration in Productboard to connect to your Jira instance.
  2. Push/Link: Push new features from Productboard to Jira as new issues or link existing Productboard features to already created Jira tasks.
  3. Sync Releases: Configure release syncing to map Productboard release groups to Jira Fix Versions.

Key Considerations

  • Data Mapping is Crucial: Pay close attention to mapping your custom Productboard fields to JPD's structure.
  • Start Small: Consider a phased migration, perhaps starting with key insights or a single product area.
  • Leverage JPD Features: Use JPD's prioritization frameworks (like RICE scoring) and roadmapping features to structure your data once imported.

Few steps from the web that could help you here

Thank You,

Prachi
