Streamlining Jira Product Discovery Administration

Hi everyone,

We are simplifying how Jira Product Discovery (JPD) is managed to ensure consistency across all Jira products. This change reduces administrative overhead and improves security auditing.

The Big Picture

Currently, JPD uses a unique administration check. We are moving to the standard "Administer Jira" global permission. This aligns JPD with the rest of the Jira ecosystem, providing one single place to manage access.

So What?

• Consistency: One permission now governs all Jira products.

• Visibility: Jira admins can now audit JPD access alongside other tools.

• Action Required: Some users who currently manage JPD via Site or Org Admin roles may lose access if they do not also have the "Administer Jira" permission.

What's changing

• New Requirement: To manage JPD settings, users must have the "Administer Jira" global permission.

• Expanded Access: Existing Jira Admins will gain the ability to manage JPD settings they may have been locked out of previously.

• Affected Areas: This impacts product settings (like public views and contributor access), space settings, and view sharing controls.

Who this affects

Anyone who administers Jira Product Discovery (JPD) settings, and the Jira admins who support them.

Where you'll notice it

• JPD product settings: Access (public views, shared views, contributor access and the contributors group), Dates (year start), and Global views

• Space settings and space Access, including managing roles and the contributors group

• View sharing and publishing controls

What you need to do

Before the change reaches your site, check your permissions.

1. Identify who manages your JPD settings.

2. Ensure they are granted the Administer Jira global permission.

3. Where: Navigate to Jira settings → System → Global permissions.

When

This starts taking effect from the end of October 2026, rolling out gradually site by site. Nothing changes on your site until the rollout reaches it.
