We’re excited to announce a major upgrade to how you connect Jira and Confluence Cloud to other Atlassian Apps: OAuth 2.0 is now available as an authentication type for Application Links! Application Links is a bundled app that allows you to set up links, share information, and provide access to certain resources or functionality across multiple Atlassian apps.
With OAuth 2.0 support, you can now establish secure and reliable connections between your Jira and Confluence Cloud instances—and other compatible Atlassian DC products—using an industry-standard authentication protocol. This enhancement improves security and flexibility in your integrations, helping you meet compliance requirements and future-proof your app connections.
Key benefits:
Stronger security: OAuth 2.0 is the industry standard for secure authentication, reducing risks associated with legacy protocols.
Industry standard: OAuth 2.0 is actively maintained and widely adopted, ensuring compliance requirements and evolving security standards.
Getting started with OAuth 2.0 Application Links:
Go to Jira or Confluence Cloud.
Navigate to Settings
Find Application links.
Follow the prompts to create a new Application Link using OAuth 2.0.
For a detailed walkthrough, check out our OAuth 2.0 Application Links User Guide.
OAuth 2.0 is designed to provide secure delegated access to connect apps. This is especially important as organisations increasingly prioritise security and regulatory compliance.
By adopting OAuth 2.0 for your Application Links, you’ll benefit from:
Security: Uses HTTPS for encryption and relies on short-lived access tokens, which simplifies signing and enhances security.
Industry standard: OAuth 2.0 is actively maintained and widely adopted, ensuring compliance requirements and evolving security standards.
We encourage you to upgrade your existing AppLinks to OAuth 2.0 and let us know how it works for your team. Your feedback helps us continue to improve the Atlassian Cloud experience.
