IT Asset Management in JSM: When the Atlassian F1 Team Becomes the Fastest IT Asset.

IT Asset Management

Atlassian F1 Team Becomes the Fastest IT Asset.

In Formula 1, millimeter precision is not just for racing lines and curbs; it is the golden rule for hardware management. If we took a look inside the Atlassian F1 Team, we would find flawless workflow execution powered by JSM and IT Asset Management (ITAM).

Here is how the team tracks and optimizes every single hardware component to win the operational efficiency championship:

  • Hardware Lifecycle at 300 km/h: A modern F1 car is made of over 14,500 active parts. The team monitors every temperature sensor, ECU, and electronic component from procurement in the factory to post-race decommissioning, optimizing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of each asset.

  • Hardware Asset Management (HAM) in the Pit Box: Every front wing and tire blanket set is cataloged with unique tracking IDs. IT Asset Management also ensures critical spares are always available in the right garage at the right time.

  • Software Asset Management (SAM) for Telemetry: Track side engineers rely on dozens of software licenses to analyze aerodynamic flows and real-time data. A centralized ITAM system monitors license compliance, renewals, and access allocation between the garage and the wind tunnel, eliminating budget waste.

The Telemetry of Stable Assets
Modern Formula 1 is an unprecedented engineering challenge. The Atlassian F1 Team proves that to go fast on track, you must have absolute control over your technology infrastructure, minimizing downtime risks and maximizing hardware ROI.

Victory is built one asset at a time!

Hi Giuseppe,

Thank you for sharing this example. I have a related question about technical-document management within the Atlassian F1 Team.

Is Assets used only to manage hardware and software assets, or is it also used as a controlled register for documentation such as technical manuals, procedures and specification sheets?

I am particularly interested in how the team ensures users can identify the latest approved documentation and avoids relying on stale or uncurated information.

regards,
Joao
