From Chaos to Control: See what’s new in Service Collection Assets

From chaos to control with Service Collection Assets

Messy asset data slows teams down. When hardware details, service relationships, and ownership information are spread across spreadsheets and disconnected tools, even simple questions can take too long to answer.

In an upcoming Atlassian Community webinar, we’ll share how Service Collection Assets can help teams build a more reliable view of the things they run, own, and support.

What we’ll explore: how a unified data foundation, hardware lifecycle management, and a more intuitive data-management experience can help IT teams move from reconciling records to acting on trusted context.

See the story behind the demo

We’ll start with the challenge many teams know well: data scattered across discovery tools, ticketing systems, procurement records, and shared drives. We’ll share our

Our focus has been to find ways to support our customers toFrom there, we’ll look at how Assets brings the context behind service work into one connected model.

You’ll get a walk through of:

  • The Common Data Model a standardized foundation for more consistent asset data and relationships.

  • Dedicated Hardware Asset Management module a view of hardware across its lifecycle, from procurement and stockrooms through active use and retirement.

  • Hardware Insights and Hardware AI Skills pre-configured and OOTB AI features tailored to Hardware Asset Management

Why this matters

Trustworthy asset context is more than an inventory exercise. It can help teams assess impact during incidents, understand risk before changes, find ownership faster, and connect service decisions to the environment they actually manage.

And as teams explore AI-assisted service experiences, the quality of the underlying data matters even more. Better relationships and clearer ownership give teams and the systems supporting them more useful context to work with.

“The goal isn’t to maintain a CMDB. It’s to make every service decision better informed.”

Sounds interesting @VIJAY GOWDA . Many don’t realize just how much Assets has improved recently.

I follow it closely as our app Asset Manager for Jira adds functionality to native Jira Assets like custom QR code label printing so we are keen to see what is new.

We went through this exact journey — heavily customized Assets in Data Center, then migrated to cloud only to find ourselves significantly constrained. Many of the capabilities we relied on in DC simply aren't available in cloud yet, so the move felt like a step backwards in terms of asset management maturity rather than a step forward.

That said, we're genuinely curious what this webinar will show. The Common Data Model and Hardware AI Skills sound promising on paper — but the real question for us is: are these features closing the gap with DC, or are they new additions built on top of a still-limited foundation?

A few things we'd love to hear addressed:

  • When can cloud customers expect feature parity with DC for Assets customization?
  • How much flexibility does the Common Data Model actually offer for teams with non-standard CMDB structures?
  • Is there a consolidated, detailed resource that documents the current DC-to-cloud feature gap for Assets? The high-level roadmap and "What's New" posts are helpful, but a side-by-side feature comparison would go a long way in helping teams like ours plan and set expectations.

Maybe we are using cloud Assets wrong — we're open to that possibility. But right now it feels like we're being asked to trust a platform that hasn't yet earned back the trust we had in the DC version. Looking forward to seeing what you bring to the table.
