Hi community,
When you set a goal, why it matters and how you'll know it was achieved are just as important as what you're doing. Today's Description field quietly asks you to cover the what, the why, and how success is measured, all in one box, but that context often ends up compressed, inconsistent, or missing altogether. Now each question gets its own place.
The Goal Overview tab now prompts you for three things instead of one:
Each field uses the same rich text editing you're used to. Anything you've already written stays exactly where it is, in the Description - the two new fields are optional and start out empty.
All three fields are wired into the places you already work with goal data. We've extended activity history to cover all three, so you can see when the thinking behind a goal changed, and who changed it. They're also available in CSV export, the public API, and the goal context included in emails.
Asking for the reasoning and the measures of success helps goal owners set out their thinking, and how they'll judge achievement, up front - uplevelling the quality of goals, and giving followers a consistent shape to read across every goal. It also gives Rovo richer, more structured context to draw on when you're leveraging goal data to answer your questions.
If you use the Projects app, this will look familiar. The About tab in Projects has prompted users to think through 3 framing questions for a while now, and it's a pattern that's worked well - this brings Goals into line.
This change is rolling out to all Goals customers over the coming weeks, and admins don't need to do anything. If your organisation is on the bundled release track for Goals, you'll receive it with your next monthly bundle.
We'd love to know whether these three fields match the way your teams write goals. We’re looking to bring further AI capabilities to help you populate the Overview tab, so watch this space and let us know how you go in the comments!
