Hi everyone,
Tracking metrics is essential to understanding whether your goals are on track and giving your teams confidence in the decisions they make.
We've shipped several changes to help you tell the story behind your numbers. You can now record a value as of the date it was true rather than the day you entered it, remove values you don't want, see who added what, and have your goal's progress automatically update.
If your organization has Strategy Collection, which adds portfolio-level planning to Goals and Projects, you can go a step further and set a target for each month or quarter and map out the values you expect to hit along the way and track how you're doing against that plan.
Here are the latest improvements. Together, these updates give you a more complete and trustworthy picture of how your goals are progressing.
Metric values as of a specific date - record a value without publishing a goal update, and choose the date it's true for
See who added each value - use the new Updated by column in the data table to see who recorded each metric value
Delete a metric value - remove a value you no longer need directly from the data table, so you can keep your history up to date
Fuller activity history - metric changes, including changes to period targets, are now recorded in Activity history on your success measure
Progress that stays in sync - a goal's progress automatically updates whenever a new metric value is recorded, whether entered manually, via integration, or through automation
Period targets - set a target for each month (quarterly targets coming soon), see the target line on your metric chart. Skip a period and your chart joins the targets on either side. Because targets are set per goal, the same metric can carry a different plan on different goals, which is useful when one number is being pushed by more than one team. (Available with Strategy Collection)
For teams that want to look across goals, metric data is also available in Atlassian Analytics, where you can build charts and dashboards instead of working goal by goal.
For step-by-step instructions see:
We have a few more features planned to help you track performance with confidence and clarity.
Targets vs actuals in a table - see your period targets alongside the values you recorded on your goals, so monthly forums and quarterly reviews can be read from one screen. Organizations with Focus can also see this view in the Goals tab
Target pacing: Model your metric trajectory in a couple of clicks, then adjust the periods that need it.
We'd love to hear how you're using period targets and the other metric improvements in your planning and reviews. Tell us in the comments what would make it easier to track progress against your plans.
Thanks for being part of the Goals and Projects community!
