A more powerful way to update and view your Goals

Hi Community,

We’re introducing bundled updates in the Goals app - a new way to update and view goals and success measures together in one view.

We’ve also redesigned the right-hand sidebar to make key goal details easier to scan.

What’s new

  • Writing goal updates: When you write a goal update, your linked success measures now appear directly in the composer - no more manual copying and pasting to tell the full story.

  • Reading goal updates: Goal updates now show the latest success measure updates alongside them. See the full picture at a glance and drill into details without switching views.

  • Better visualisations for success measure updates: Progress charts now appear directly in goal updates, making it easier to track and share how your metrics are trending over time.

  • A clearer way to view goal details: Goal information like owner, followers, sub-goals, and tags is now displayed in a structured side-by-side layout, making it faster to scan and understand the full context of a goal at a glance.

What do I need to do?

No action is required. This update will be rolled out automatically to your site. Once it’s available, you’ll see your success measures appear when you write or read a goal update.

We’re targeting the start of Q2 2026 (April–May) for this rollout and will provide a more precise date closer to launch. We’re sharing this early to give you more time to plan and notify any of your teams that might be interested.

FAQs

Can I still update success measures individually?

Yes. You can still update success measures independently, and those updates will also be reflected in the main goal update for improved context.

Will this change my existing goal updates?

No. This new experience will only apply to newly posted updates.

We want your feedback!

Once you’ve had a chance to try the new experience, we’d love to hear what you think. As always, please share your feedback and questions in the comments so we can continue improving Goals with you.

Great update. Is it also an option to stop the current limit of 20 success measures? For some use cases 20 is a blocking limit.

@Jan thanks for the feedback! Are you able to elaborate on the limit you're finding with the number of success measures? Are you trying to associate >20 success measures with a goal? From speaking with the team, we verified that the limit is beyond 20, so this shouldn't be an issue. Let us know how you go!

Thanks

Charlie

Hi @Charlie Marriott ,

I was referencing this article https://support.atlassian.com/platform-experiences/docs/what-are-success-measures-and-key-results/

"Aim for one to three success measures per goal. Too many can make it hard to focus and report. Note that goals have a maximum of 20 success measures."

But if there is no limit - even better.

Thanks for your feedback.

best

@Charlie Marriott

Yes, it would also be great for us to get rid of the 20s limits.

Here's why: We structure Goals (or prefer to) by division and year.  There are multiple subteams working on different subgoals. We use metrics to represent those.
We basically use the thing to give us a nice overview of hierarchy of goals.
20 is not YET a limiting factor, but we're cutting it close for some.
