Bitbucket Blitz | New Pipeline Triggers

dev_edge_community_banner.png

Welcome to the Bitbucket Blitz video series. The series features a library of short-form videos that, together, capture the end-to-end flow developers use to get sh&t done with our Software Collection. There is a specific focus on Bitbucket and Bitbucket Pipelines features.

A better developer experience is a few steps away.

Bitbucket Pipelines already supports triggering on repository pushes and pull request pushes. But if you wanted to react to other events like a deployment finishing, a build failing, or a PR getting merged, you had to wire that up yourself with webhooks or external glue code.

New trigger types let you define those conditions directly in your YAML. You can fire custom pipelines on events like:

  • pipeline-completed

  • deployment-completed

  • pullrequest-created

  • pullrequest-fulfilled

So instead of building external orchestration, you can chain stages together, send notifications on failures, or generate release notes on merge, all from your pipeline configuration. And because these triggers work with shared pipelines, you can set up reactive workflows that span your entire workspace without duplicating config across repos.

In this Bitbucket Blitz video, I walk through how to set up these triggers in your bitbucket-pipelines.yml file so your pipelines react to what's happening across your workflow automatically.
