Crowd cannot communicate with mail server

Hello all,

I have installed Crowd in my local server and I cannot configure it to use a GMail account.

I have set the following settings:

SMTP Host: smtp.gmail.com

SMTP Port: 465

Username: t***ar@gmail.com

Password: ********

and enabled the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

However, if I try to send a test email I get the following error:

Test failed

There was a problem communicating with the mail server.

DEBUG: setDebug: JavaMail version 1.4.7
DEBUG: getProvider() returning javax.mail.Provider[TRANSPORT,smtps,com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSSLTransport,Oracle]
DEBUG SMTP: useEhlo true, useAuth true
DEBUG SMTP: trying to connect to host "smtp.gmail.com", port 465, isSSL true

I have used the same settings in Confluence and everything works as expected.

Hi, welcome to the Community!

It looks like you have to import an SSL certificate and configure a JNDI resource before you can use Gmail for an SMTP server with Crowd. This article has all the necessary steps Using Gmail as a Crowd Mail Server.

thank you for your valuable answer. Everything worked!

I am having a similar problem with Bitbucket. I followed this documentation but I get the error "Sending mail failed. Please verify the mail server configuration and check the logs for details". I noticed that there is no JNDI option for Bitbucket.
