"Expand" widget broken

I am using "Page" (type of page) and the "Expand" widget with images nested within. After a few days the images break with "Preview unavailable" shown. It does not break instantly. I also noticed that it breaks more when Expand is nested in another Expand.. example: Expand > Expand > Image
This is not a one time issue it happened on on more than one page.

Hi @thomasagius ,

Can you maybe check if other users are experiencing the same thing? I'm asking because I've seen a couple of cases where the browser was actually the issue rather than Confluence itself 👀
Also, some companies do have enforced policies when it comes to cache and cookies, which are then automatically cleared every once in a while.

I'd also suggest trying to open the same page in incognito mode/window or a different browser to see if the problem persists there.

You could force re-render > basically enter Edit mode, make a tiny change (e.g., add a space somewhere) and then click Publish to see if that will fix it 🤔

I'd also agree with Kris and just point out that deep nesting might not be the 'best idea' - either from a UX perspective or from a performance side ⚙️

Cheers,
Tobi

I tried the force re-render but no luck. I had to completely remove the Expand widget and use headings and images only since this is the third time happening. It happened for other colleagues in the past and they end up opting for not using the Expand widget

Hi @thomasagius and welcome to the community.

How do you insert the images onto pages?

(From the content structure point of view.... repeated nesting of information is not among the best practices as readers are increasing more likely to lose the thread and/or miss the 'expand' option in your specific case.)

Hi Kris, I paste my images from screenshot tool (or manual right click copy from Slack) and save. I removed the nesting in the past but experienced this randomly. It reminds me of the an old Jira ticket bug with images that if ticket was opened for a long period of time it used to not allow pasting until publishing

Hi @thomasagius

I see. So presumably, when you go to the Attachments page (that lists all the attachemnts / images on a given page), you can still see them, correct?

Last week, I did experience images randomly not rendeding properly on ONE site that I was playing with. It usually worked fine after I refreshed the page. And it was the only site of many I'm working with.

From a more distant past... the image will appear on a page, it will be among the attachments... and then would fail to render. That's clearly a bug but the culprit is, afaik, a database error on the Atlassian site.

Copying/pasting of images between pages from different spaces/pages (or publishing pages from space to another) can sometimes render images 'not displayed'. More oftan than not, it's a permission thing or, again, a glitch.

Mind though... all of the above are extremely rare. But they do happen.
