"Error connecting to server" when pasting or attaching images or files

If I try and paste an image into Confluence or insert a file, I get "error connecting to server". I can happily click on the elipses, attach a file, then edit the document and insert the file from the library, so it's not a rights issue or anything.

But that method is much more cumbersom as I have to create, save and then edit the page rather than doing it all in one step.

I'm using Confluence cloud, have full admin rights, and using Chrome. It's not file type or size specific.
