I use a page as a record of document checks, I use snippit to copy images of the sections of the document and ctrl V these into the confleunce page. Today all past images are not displayed and just a text statement of the link is shown.

Since you're on Data Center, not Cloud, this looks like a storage or cache problem rather than something about the paste itself. Worth checking: is the shared home partition full, does clearing the thumbnail cache and restarting Confluence fix it, and does the confluence log show any IO or permission errors from around when this started.
