Did you mean:

how to publish my site to the internet

Marawan Mahmoud November 12, 2018

Hello: I own SecureDigitalOS.com & need help from you to publish my confluence site to the public.  In the begining, I will not allow or permit users to change my site, but after I build it more, organize it by topics, etc. will have people (anonymos) or logged in to ask questions.

I've changed IIS to redirect securedigitalos.com to securedigitalos.com:8090.  Internally when I RDP to my Win 2016 VM, I can launch the site from confluence icon with Securedigitalos.com.  externally I 've added an SSL to the site, securedigitalos.com, I just can't make the site work & need help from you.  thanks.

Hello Marawan,

Can you just confirm what the issue is at this time? Everything works fine except the SSL?

Are you getting any error messages?

You'll want to review Running Confluence over SSL or https to ensure that all steps are completed, but if you can tell us more about what problem you're running into, we'll be able to help you.

Thanks Shannon, I'll try a few tricks & will take out the assigned SSL 1st from plesk platform.  Once I have more time, I'll try to have the site published but for now, I've disabled the SSL & will just use http protocol.  Internally the site is browse-able  but externally it's not.  the platform is setup w/ Windows 2016 & Plesk which is running on IIS 10.  Confluence obviously runs on TomCat & so once I have more time, I'll redo the DNS settings to have the server respond to http calls on it's name @ 8090. thanks.

Marawan,

I'm testing the URL without SSL, and it still times out immediately. Can you confirm that when you completely disable the SSL, you can access the site externally? Does accessing directly using the IP and port number work externally?

Is the port 8090 open to external users on your IIS server?

I would recommend also getting in touch with your web host and see if they have any suggestions, as there may be further settings in IIS you need to complete before it's accessible externally.

You may also have a look here for more details on how to troubleshoot:

Let me know if you have any trouble.

Thanks, I've fixed the NIC settings on the Win 2016 box & updated DNS internally & now the site is accessible on 8090 w/out HTTPS, which I 'll work on later on.

I've got one more question, how do I integrate Google Authenticator app with Confluence login portion ?  I've googled this & tried youtube but I'm not getting an easy fix.  I essentionally now have blocked all IPs to 8090 to only my IP (for now till I secure the site), but need a way to use 2 Factor Authentication for this site.  I'm thinking there must be a simple way to get an App that can provide 2 factor authentication.  Thanks again Shannon for all your help!

Marawan,

You're welcome!

For your 2FA question, I would recommend raising a new question in the Confluence collection. I don't have any experience with this myself besides with Cloud, but you may find that other community members have and are able to answer your questions regarding it.

Regards,

Shannon
