In Confluence wiki 5.5.6,  How do I create a table from text in a .TXT file?

You need to make sure the tables are in the proper format:

and then import them as wiki markup, using either the Confluence editor (easy) (Insert, Markup, Paste, click button, done!) or using the API (a little more involved, but necessary if you want to automate the process).
