I am not able to delete my account, and the message
"we weren't able to delete your account" is not helpful. AT ALL.
Why is this so difficult?
Hi @Marc Bodde ,
That error is genuinely unhelpful, I feel you. Sometimes the reason is almost always one of three things...
The most common one is that you still have an active product or site tied to the account. Even on Free, a Confluence site counts as "active", and things like Jira, Loom, Goals or Projects often get attached without you realizing. Go to admin, open your org, then Billing and cancel anything active. Free stuff shows up there too.
The second one is that you're the last admin or billing contact. If you're the only person on the org, Atlassian won't let you vanish and leave a product with no owner. Easiest fix is to just delete the site and then the whole organization first, then come back and delete your account.
The third one is timing. Cancellations take up to a week to fully clear on their side. So if you just cancelled things, give it a few days and try again.
The order that usually works is: cancel every subscription, delete the site, delete the organization, then delete the account.
Good luck!
HI @Marc Bodde
As this relates to a Free instance, you are probably the last billing admin, this involves specific billing adjustments or manual site restoration, The Atlassian Billing and Licensing team will need to handle this.
- To get this resolved, please follow these steps to create a support ticket:
- Open a browser in Incognito/Private mode (this is important to ensure you aren't automatically logged into the suspended account).
- Go to the Atlassian Support: Pricing, Billing, & Licensing | Atlassian.
- Under How can we help you?, select Quotes and Plan Changes.
- Under Choose a topic, select Change cloud plan.
- Fill in the details.
- If the message box isn't visible, click on “Need more help?” to make the description field and submit button appear.
In your description, please explain the situation and include a link to this forum post so the agent has all the context.
