Why can't some images be added to a Confluence page?

I'm trying to add .png / .jpg / .tiff images to a page in Confluence. Some of them work, some do not. If dragged onto a page they don't display properly. If uploaded they upload indefinitely. What are the possible reasons that some don't work and how can I fix this? Thanks!
