Why can't I see files I upload to a page?

John Blum November 25, 2018

If I upload a document to a page via the Attachment macro, I can see it if I look at the attachments for the space but when I view the page all I see is "No files shared here yet".

What could I be doing wrong to prohibit the attachment being viewable at the page level?

Hi John,

Have you attached any of the documents directly to the page yet, or have you only uploaded from this page?

If you were to attach one of the documents directly to the page via edit mode or add it via a macro, does it display there?

Regards,

Shannon

Hey Shannon:

Thanks for responding. Turns-out the Attachment Labels I had were the problem. Once I cleared-out that field my attachments get associated with the page appropriately.

Instructions are not clear for that field and make no mention how it can get in the away of attachments.

Hi John,

So to confirm - you had attachment labels filled in, and then any attachments in Atttachments Macro that didn't contain those labels weren't displaying?

Was it at the moment that you removed the labels that it started working, or did you have to do anything else?

What would help make this more clear for you? Is there a specific message you would want to see?

Regards,

Shannon

I believe it's because the attachments I uploaded did not contain those labels but I am not 100% sure.

When I removed the labels from the macro the uploads began working for new pages only; already created pages still have the same symptom.

The Attachments Macro Documentation for Attachment Labels currently reads:

A list of labels, used to filter the attachments to display. If you wish to enter more than one label, separate the labels with commas. Confluence will show only attachments that have all the labels specified. (The match is an AND, not an OR.) For information on labeling the attachments, see Add, Remove and Search for Labels.

Are the labels referenced those previously assigned through Confluence? I think so, therefore a better way is:

A list of labels used to filter the attachments to display. If you wish to enter more than one label separate the labels with commas. Confluence will show only attachments that have all the labels specified. (The match is an AND, not an OR.) New attachments to your page do not have labels and will not render if your macro contains one or more Attachment Labels, therefore if you are using this macro for new attachments leave the Attachment Labels parameter blank. Otherwise upload your attachment, find it at the Space level, and apply the labels. For information on labeling the attachments, see Add, Remove and Search for Labels.

Thank you for that explanation. That was very clear.

I created a documentation request for this here:

You can vote on this to show it would help you and watch it so you can be updated of any changes.

It does also appear there was a feature request to prevent this, but we have closed it as we do not intend to include this in our upcoming roadmap:

Shannon
