Why can't I publish a page anymore?

Marina-Madalina Tidrea

I am experiencing a Confluence issue, in the editing mode. Namely, I created a new page, and when I try to publish it, I receive the following error message.

Confluence_issue.jpg

I refreshed the page, and afterwards tried to publish it again, however unsuccessfully.
As a next step, I logged out from Confluence, delete browser cookies, and logged back in, but the same error occurred.

Can you please verify where the problem is?

It would be very helpful if we could identify the root cause and a possible solution.

Thank you in advance for your support.

Kind regards,

This is a known, documented error with a couple of confirmed causes, since it's a new page you're creating, this is most likely one of them:

1. Duplicate title, this generic error often actually means a page with that exact title already exists somewhere in the space, but the message doesn't say so directly. To confirm: open browser DevTools (right-click > Inspect > Network tab), click Publish again, and look for a failed (red) request, the response will often say "A page with this title already exists" if that's the cause. If so, just rename the page.

2. Title not registering correctly, sometimes Confluence doesn't recognize a title change properly (can happen with copy-pasted titles). Try editing the title (add a space, then remove it) so a real change is detected, then publish again.

Since you've already tried clearing cookies and logging back in (which rules out session/auth issues), one of these two is the most likely cause. If neither resolves it, this is worth raising directly with Atlassian Support with a HAR file capture of the failed publish attempt, they can trace the exact backend error from there.
