Currently, we are including an image map in the Confluence page using HTML Macro. We are inserting the whole HTML code including some Javascript via REST API call. It is not required to insert the map manually, it will be always posted via REST API.

However, a lot of our customers are blocking the macro, so we have to find another way.

1/ Is creating own macro the only way and the right way? (we do not want to use 3rd party image map plugin as we need more flexibility)

2/ Having the requirements mentioned above plus it should work both on-premise and in the cloud, what type of macro should we build?

3/ Is it ok to include custom HTML, JS, CSS in the code rendered by the custom macro/plugin?

Thank you.
