When displaying a page with UI Expand macros, are the hidden pages only expanded when expanded?

A user has a page with loads of instances of the UI Expand macro, each with complicated wiki content. He asked me if when displaying the page would the hidden wiki content be rendered at that time or only if it is expanded.

Hi Richard,

I believe that all content is rendered upon page load, it is only hidden from view.  You could probably use the cache macro to speed up your page load, though (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/org.swift.confluence.cache)
