Upload images in a custom confluence macro dialog

Hello, I want my custom macro to insert images in a page but I don't like the fact that I have to upload the files beforehand and look for them in the page attachments.

I was looking at the create attachment api (POST rest/api/content/pageid/child/attachment) and I was thinking to use that inside my dialog js,

Is there an easier way to do this? For example, would it be possible to override the existing upload image macro in some way?
