Upgrade failed and install-directory not restored

TK
April 21, 2020

Hello,

due to technical problems our upgrade of confluence server failed. The install directory has not been recovered, so if we try to execute the installer again, we are only able to install a new confluence-instance.We have backups of our home-directory and the database, how should we move on to avoid data loss?

Kind regards

Hi,

I would try the following assuming Confluence was installing on a Linux box:

  1. Restore your Confluence database with backup data.
  2. Restore your Confluence home directory data to a new directory. Eg. /pack/confluence-home
  3. Download the Confluence version as a tar.gz file so it will reflect your database backup and Confluence home data. URL: https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence/download-archives so download the Confluence version as it was before you tried to upgrade.
  4. Installing Confluence on Linux from Archive File. eg to a directory named /pack/confluence URL: https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/installing-confluence-on-linux-from-archive-file-255362363.html
  5. Edit confluence-init.properties in /pack/confluence/confluence/WEB-INF/classes. Set the “confluence.home = /pack/confluence-home” property.
  6. Edit /pack/confluence-home/confluence.cfg.xml so it will match your database URL, username and password.
  7. Start Confluence

Hope this will get further.
