Dear community,

I'm new at administrating confluence. Today I installed the source code plugin. After doing that, there were to more plugins automatically installed:

  • atlassian-universal-plugin-manager-plugin
  • I don't know the name of the second.

These both plugins wanted to be updated, so I did that.

After some hours I wanted to use my confluence and I got the following error message:confluence_error.JPGI found and tried this kb-article, but it didn't work: https://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/unable-to-start-up-confluence-372081272.html
The first resolution I don't know how to do this. Resolution 2 till 4 I tried, but it didn't work.
I'm using the embedded H2 database. I think this is a good timing to migrate this, after fixing this issue.

I really have no idea, what to do now. Please help me!

Best regards
Markus

Hi Markus,

atlassian-universal-plugin-manager-plugin is actually the Universal Plugin Manager so it's safe to update.

I would recommend taking your last backup and using this to migrate to a new instance. It's possible that there may be an available backup if you set up automatic backups:

Scheduled XML backup

Confluence provides a scheduled XML backup option, which backs up your site by performing a full site XML export each day.  This method can be useful for small sites, test sites, or in addition to your database and directory backups. We don't recommend you rely solely on this backup method for your production site.

See Configuring Backups to find out more about the scheduled XML backup, including how to disable this backup, or change how often this job runs.

If you do have a backup, then you can do the following:

  1. Stop Confluence
  2. Make a copy of Confluence Home Directory (this is a precautionary measure)
  3. Create fresh installation of Confluence, and connect it to a new database (Database Configuration)
  4. Start up Confluence
  5. Restore XML backup

These steps are paraphrasing Migrating to another database, if you'd like to have a deeper look at the steps.

If you do NOT have a workable backup, then let me know, and we can think of another solution.

Regards,

Shannon

Hi Shannon,

really thank you for your quick answer! I struggled two days with your infos and the system, because I didn't had a second system to host confluence.

Short story: I copied all confluence data and reinstalled confluence. After that I restored my data with the daily-auto-backup, confluence made for me.

No data is lost, everything is fine. I additionally installed the source code editor app again and it seems to work. Hope this will persist. :-)

Thank you very much!

Best regards
Markus
