Unable to edit or otherwise interact with/click on anything on a Confluence page except for sidebar

Has anyone else run into this problem? I published a new page and I can't click on or interact with anything on it at all—I can't edit it, I'm not able to click on any element of the page at all. It's like the page is locked down (though the icon says otherwise).

The only thing I'm able to interact with is the sidebar. Is there a way to delete this page besides the usual way of having to do so from the page itself?

Hi Vanessa,

Welcome to Atlassian Community. It's nice to have you!

Could you tell me, do you happen to be on Confluence Cloud? Are the toolbars greyed out, preventing you from using them?

I think you are possibly affected by the following bug:

  • CONFCLOUD-68168 Edit functions are grayed out in Confluence Cloud for certain users

In the event that WSS fails, Confluence falls back to WS (non-secure WebSocket). In the new editor, the fall back does not happen, because it's not supported to edit with non-secure WebSockets. If your company's network doesn't support secure WebSocket connections, you might be running into this problem.

If that is the case with you, try the following workaround:

  • Use Firefox with a manual proxy when editing in Confluence.
  • Contact your organization's IT/network team to allow WSS connections

I would also recommend you try the same action while using Incognito mode, so we can rule out any browser extensions causing the issue. I've heard some reports from other customers that this was the case for them.

If you are affected by the above bug, it is currently in High Priority, and currently it's In progress of being fixed.

If you are not affected by this issue, could you show me a screenshot of how the problem looks to you? Are your colleagues having the same issue? Can you confirm which browser you are using?

Thank you for your help!

Take care,

Shannon
