Hi,
I'm upgrading our Confluence server from 5.10.4 to 6.10.1 and it is taking much longer than I expected. I started it yesterday at 10:30am and it is still going at 8;00am this morning. So that's nearly 24 hours so far.
It's currently on the "Backing up the Confluence home directory" stage. Numbers (filenames?) are changing above the progress bar so I'm assuming it has not crashed. The progress bar is nearly at the half-way point on this stage.
Does anyone have any idea if this length of time is normal, and how much longer it might take? If I knew then I could decide whether to stop it or let it run.
Thanks, Richard
Hi @Richard
Yes, it has taken time to take the backup of home directory. It also depends on the various parameters, such as, the memory on the server, memory allocated to the server, Confluence database statistics etc.
If you want to disable the automatic backup process, you can update the setenv.sh file with the following parameter. You can check the size of the home directory as well.
-Dconfluence.upgrade.recovery.file.enabled=false
If it is still taking the backup, I will suggest you to stop the process, if it is test environment, and update the parameter before restarting it again.

Amith Mathur
Hi Amith,
Thanks for the reply and advice.
We cancelled the upgrade after 48 hours, as we couldn't keep the site offline for any longer. I will certainly look at your suggestion as we take server snapshots before starting the upgrade process, so I can't see any advantage in having Confluence Backup Zip files as well.
Thanks, Richard
