Team Calendar Timing Inaccurate

Kaitlyn Weber September 8, 2021

The timing of events on a calendar subscription is showing all times 5 hours ahead. For example, our orientation begins at 9a PT and the start time is showing as 2p PT. This is true for every calendar event within our Google calendar - they're accurate in google but not in Confluence.

Hi @Kaitlyn Weber

You are experiencing this because the Team Calendar events are created in the time zone of the User creating the Event. Events are displayed in the time zone of the User viewing the Event. Please refer this article on how you can change your timezone and work around this.

Also, please take a look at the comments on this thread on how you can fix it.

Hi @Kishan Sharma

All of these events have been created from the Pacific Timezone. Any other ideas on what could be causing this? Thank you!

Hi @Kaitlyn Weber can you please check what is your confluence server timezone ? and what timezone have you selected in your user profile ? Google calendar uses UTC timezone.

Kaitlyn Weber September 13, 2021

@Kishan Sharma We don't host our own Confluence server. We use Atlassian Cloud. Within our settings, I only see the time format (not time zone). It looks like this may be an open issue from 2017? https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFSERVER-16057

@Kaitlyn Weber Ah ok, i thought you ares using confluence server. Are you not getting option to edit your timezone and set it to something else as per this documentation ? See if that helps or else better to raise a support ticket with Atlassian for further help.

I am not able to adjust within my settings, but am directed to Account Preferences. I adjusted to Canada/Pacific here and am wondering if that will change the time zone for all users or just for the company account so the calendar is accurately shown? Thank you!

Hi @Kaitlyn Weber yes these are personalised settings, meaning these will be set for your profile only and not for all users.

Hey @Kishan Sharma, that brings me back to my original question:

The timing of events on a calendar subscription is showing all times 5 hours ahead. For example, our orientation begins at 9a PT and the start time is showing as 2p PT. This is true for every calendar event within our Google calendar - they're accurate in google but not in Confluence.

I just removed and re-added the calendar and that seems to have resolved the issue. However, there is an event appearing on the Confluence calendar that doesn't exist on the google calendar. Do you know why this is occurring?

Hi @Kaitlyn Weber great that its working for you now. Have you subscribed team calendar with google calendar ? and newly created confluence calendar events are not appearing in google calendar ?  OR there are some unknown events appearing in your confluence calendar ?

Kaitlyn Weber September 16, 2021

Hi @Kishan Sharma - that's correct. I've subscribed and the google calendar in question is in my list of subscribed calendars on Confluence. There was an event showing for 9:00 a.m. PT yesterday on the Confluence calendar that was deleted from the google calendar over a month ago. It's still appearing on the Confluence calendar.

Seems like somehow the sync didn't happen or it can be a sync delay from google calendar. You can delete it manually otherwise on the confluence calendar. I will also recommend raising a ticket with Atlassian Support if this pattern is repeated for further troubleshooting.
