Some uses can't see pasted images (.png) files

I have two .png images, which originated as screen captures, attached to a page.  When I edit the page and insert those images, they look fine.  When I Update the page, the images are distorted - still the right shape and size, but badly blurred, as though the source pixels were not properly mapped into the screen pixels.  When I right-click on a blurred image and view it, the image looks fine.

Other screen-capture .png images work perfectly.

These images were reduced in size from the original.  It turns out that if the pixel size is set to 300 or less, the problem occurs.  If 301 or more, it's okay.  I found an old post about how it's probably a known bug having to do with whether or not Confluence thinks it's dealing with a thumbnail.  If so, it seems to have been a known bug for four years now.
