Save user config

Hi,

What is the best way to save user config in confluence?

I am building a blog macro and the user should be able to save his preferences (like sorting the blogs by title or date).

I found some infos here https://developer.atlassian.com/display/CONFDEV/Persistence+in+Confluence but I am still wondering if there is an easier way so save data per user (maybe in the User Settings?)
