Restore based on only Databack backup

Is it possible to restore our installation of  Confluence based on ONLY a backup copy of the Database?

We lost the server and unfortunately only have a backup of the SQL Database.

Any possibilities?

Mostly.  You will lose everything entered since the backup was taken, of course, and most Confluence systems have their attachments stored on the Confluence server, so if that was not backed up, you are going to lose them all too.  (Some installations have attachments in the database, if you're one of those, then you will be able to get everything back!)

What you would usually do in this case is broadly:

• Build a new Confluence server and database at exactly the same version of Confluence you had before
• Get it running ok without data (as though it's a new clean installation), and check you can get into it and create a space and a page
• Stop it
• Restore the database backup
• Start the new one and run a full index

The clean rebuild works fine - base install, created a space/page, stopped the service, restored the  DB backup, restarted the service.

But the web interface returns a blank screen, with no apparent error message. Any suggestions on troubleshooting?

I can restore the 'clean rebuild' DB and it works - it just doesn't seem to like the DB backup

What does the application log file on the new build say the problem is?
