Paste from Thunderbird cannot be styled per line

pgab June 25, 2018

When I copy a text with several line breaks from e.g. Thunderbird Mail-preview (I have text only switched on) and paste this text into the page editor all text is formatted as paragraph.

If I select one line and format it as heading, the whole text will be formatted as heading. Even using {{h2.}} syntax formats the whole text as heading.

If I enter manual line breaks I can format each line separatelyconfluence_3.png

Hi Paul,

Can you try the add-on mentioned on the below article and see if there are any unnecessary tags?

When copying and pasting data from any external locations, tags can be added that aren't visible in Confluence. You can try to remove them using the Source Editor add-on.

Let me know if you have any trouble.

Shannon

Hi Shannon,

the button to switch to source is not visible upon creation of a new page, but if I edit an existing page.

The plugin then shows that the inserted part is wrapped in p element which I can remove, but it is then added automagically again when I try to apply any format, e.g. make the first line a heading.
I could go there and format the text more or less manually, but this is still as cumbersome as inserting additional line breaks manually and yet not intuitive for non-technical persons.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

That's the intended behavior of the add-on. You can only use it when editing the page and not upon creation.

Can you see if copying the page corrects the behavior? Copying and pasting text does pose formatting issues, but workarounds such as this and the Source Editor add-on can help relieve those problems.

Regards,

Shannon
