We have a brand new confluence installation, but the page editor does not work.

When opening the page editor, it shows this rotating loading icon forever.

Also it states a message like (translated from German): The page needs longer to load than usual. Please give it a moment, then try to refresh the page. Still got problems? Contact your confluence admin.

This problem was confirmed for the current versions of Chrome, Firefox and Edge.

In the developer tools in the network tab, it shows that every http request succeeds, except this one:

(404 - not found):  https://confluence.mycompany.com/heartbeat?_=1518707502587

(I changed the domain name for privacy reasons)

We cannot file a support ticket, because we got the starter version. We will not buy the "real" thing, unless it works.

Any ideas on how to proceed?

Best regards,

Christian Neise

This is usually a problem with Synchrony, the system that provides the collaborative editing function.

Before we start on a long essay based on that assumption, you should test this.

  • Go to Admin -> Collaborative editing
  • Turn the collaborative editing OFF
  • Try to edit a page

If you still can not edit a page now, then we need to start looking at your Confluence log for errors when people click "edit".

If you can edit a page, then it is a Synchrony problem and we need to look at it to make sure that it is running, and that it can be reached by Confluence (the usual error is a misconfigured proxy for it)
