I have been given responsibility to upgrade an older version of Confluence 5.2.3 to the latest version. I am still in the process of gathering all the facts. It is running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and using Tomcat 5. I presume it is using JDBC to connect to the local SQL server DB, but am not able to find it anywhere. Can somebody help? I looked in <home-directory>/conf/server.xml and it doesn't have any <resource name> tag as mentioned in Confluence documentation. As a result, I am not able to connect to the SQL Server DB. After this, I have to gather the steps necessary to upgrade to latest release. Any links or pointers on that will also help. Thanks in advance.

Log in to the Confluence UI and access the Administration -> General Configuration. Then, scroll toward the bottom of the page and click the "System Information" link on the left side panel. You'll find the database configuration information listed there. It's right below the red/green JVM memory graph.
