Need help adding Confluence App after having deleted it

Gordon James
July 11, 2026

After deleting -team spaces I am no longer able to use Confluence at all. I am no longer unable to add this Atlassian app. I removed it in the first place trying to get around what seemed to be an issue after migrating from another org but now I can't re-add Confluence app at all. I would like to add teh Confluence app to restore use of this product.

Thanks,

Gordon

Closing loop on this. Part of the mess was probably related to my efforts to clean it up which may have made it worse. What started out as a desire to remove the -team.atlassian.net/wiki space to avoid confusion because only the main atlassian.net/wiki space was intended for use I apparently crippled the main site I wanted to keep. There is a chance this was aggravated by having migrated this from another org with some confusion on ownership.

What I really wanted to capture here, letting go of root cause and remedy to original problem, is the work-around. I coincidentally am evaluating Jira Customer Service Management which includes JSM and Confluence. In the course of configuring CSM I was able to get Confluence working fine under that product. This is not ideal and I would much rather have full Confluence working separately but it works for me for now and I am done trying to resolve this root problem for now. For anyone that sees this later, my intention is to subscribe at a paid level and engage Atlassian customer support based on an entitlement.

Thanks @Germán Morales and @Tomislav Tobijas

Hi @Gordon James , removing Confluence didn't delete it outright, it deactivated the subscription. That's why you can't just add it fresh, Atlassian still has it parked as inactive with the data attached.

  • Go to admin.atlassian.com/billing, open Subscriptions, and check the Inactive tab. If Confluence is listed there, select Reactivate and follow the prompts. This needs a Billing admin (or an Org/Site admin, depending on which billing interface your site is on), so if your account is only a Product admin, you'll need one of those roles to do it.
  • Data is only kept for 15 days on a free plan or 60 days on a paid one after deactivation, reactivating inside that window brings your spaces back along with it, this isn't a fresh install.
  • If Confluence no longer shows in that Inactive tab, or the window has already passed, that's a case for Atlassian's billing and licensing support directly, they can look at what's left on the account.

No inactive tab at all, even as org admin. Thanks for tip to get ticket open via Billing and Licensing. This worked to get past first gates, but the response required an entitlement and I am still free so it ended up being circular for different reason.

Hi @Gordon James ,

On top of what German said, here's the official article about reactivating a subscription: Reactivate a subscription 📚

I can just agree that maybe Atlassian could improve this experience; for example, when you try to re-add an app that is currently suspended/inactive, there could be some kind of prompt or wizard that would guide you to reactivate it instead of throwing an error 👀

Cheers,
Tobi

Reactivation not available and in fairness I am not yet paying for this so I think it is on me when I tried to delete the -team.atlassian.net space and fouled something up. Found odd work-around I will post here.
