Migrate from MS SQL to Postgresql

Umesh Motwani
November 15, 2018

I am using Confluence 5.8 version with MS SQL database. Now I need to migrate it to Postgresql 5.7 version.

I have installed the software following the guidelines from atlassian and connected it to empty database.

Now I need to do xml backup process as per atlassian. Can someone guide me how to take xmlbackup and migrate the database.

It's covered by https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/migrating-to-another-database-148867.html (that doc has barely changed since version 4)

I tried to follow steps for backup

This allows you to export the contents of the database to a zipped XML file. You can import the XML file into earlier Confluence versions from 5.3 to 5.8.13, and into compatible later versions. When importing, please refer to the compatibility information in the 'restore' section on this page.

I did hit Backup button but it keeps Loading

I also tried https://thesourceqa.pseg.com/admin/backup.action but this goes to above steps

Yes, you need to let it run the full export.  If you think it's failing, you'll need to read the application log to find out what is going wrong.

I have taken the XML Backup for Confluence(Oracle Database). As we are using the “Restore” Option we have placed the backup in the restore directory and the file is visible in the below screenshot..

After clicking on Restore its taking too long to Process. Can you please suggest whether it will take time to process or else is there any other method to follow.

It takes as long as it takes.  "Any other method" I can mention takes longer and increases the risk of failure significantly.

I dont see Confluence_Home folder created after it is installed. Is that something I need to make manually?
