Migrate Confluence content from 5.5 to 6.13

Bidhan Khatri January 8, 2019

We have a confluence installed on our production environment which is around 30G in size. Now I want to migrate only the confluence content, data, users from 5.5 to a new Linux server where I've installed confluence 6.13

Is there any proper way to accomplish this task? I've tried by taking a dump of confluence database tables and imported into a new server but didn't work as expected and shows error. We have been using MySQL on both servers.

No document tells you to take a database dump of a different version and dump it into a another one.

Either export the data and import it into a clean empty 6.13, or create a copy of the 5.5 install and use the installers to upgrade it.

Because of huge data, it takes much time to export and in-between that process confluence service is interrupted. How can I solve this problem?

One or a combination of:

  • Plan it properly - do it when your users don't mind the down time
  • Do it in pieces - export the spaces you need one or several at a time and import them
  • Use a high-availability system - Confluence data centre
