Hi Vinay,

That is weird, may I know if you are using HSQLDB as your database? Please note that HSQLDB is not supported for production instance as it is a memory based database that is not reliable which is why it is meant for evaluation purposes only.

Confluence by default provide automatic backup that created in a daily basis, stored in <CONF_HOME_Dir>/backups/. Check if there are any zip file stored there, if there is you should be able to use this method to restore your instance.

Hope it helps.

Did you run out of disk space on the Confluence server or the database server?

If it was the Confluence server only, then try re-indexing.  If it's the database server, then you may have simply lost them and without backups, I'm afraid there's nothing you can do.  ("No recent backups"?  That's a serious business problem and you need to fix that.)

Hi,

Here is what happened.

Over the weekend Confluence server ran out of the disk space (I don't have much control on it to configure the monitoring notification expect login into server and checking the disk space). I deleted some old backups of last month to create some space. After that I was able to see all recent updates but once I click it says "Page Not Found". I rebuild the index in admin options. After the rebuild index all recent update removed and started showing the Aug 18th updates as a recent update. Which means I lost data/pages create/updated after Aug 18th.

I restored the data from back from 5th Sep. I did not had recent backup because backups were failed to since then. Good thing is I was able to restore data quickly by looking at the confluence watcher emails because my team has not worked much from 5th Sep.

Don't know what happened to pages created/updated/edited after Aug 18th and was no issues viewing/updating/editing those pages till last weekend. That's weird.

You still haven't told us enough about the database. If it's on the same server as Confluence (either because the database server is there, or you are using HSQL), then you really are lost - without disk space to write the data to, Confluence can do nothing but throw the data away. However, as you've tried re-indexing and it hasn't helped, that's a strong indicator that you do have the database on the same disk as Confluence, and hence lost the data. There really isn't anything you can do if this is true - you've effectively been throwing data into the bin instead of saving it.

Oh, and if you have been using HSQL as the database, then stop. It's not for production and can fail catastrophically with critical data loss, even without running out of disk space.

I am using MySQL db.

On the same machine?

Vinay Bandakka September 15, 2014

Yes, on the same server

Ok. You have definitely lost everything then. While the disk was full, the system would have been unable to write new data into the database, so it's all had to have been binned. That's it I'm afraid, your only option really is the last backup or to accept the data loss and continue.
