Jira Ticket Links Break While Editing Confluence Table

Description:

When editing a Confluence page containing a table with Jira ticket links, the editor behaves inconsistently.

Issue:

• While the page is in Edit mode, the entire table continuously flickers/blinks.
• Some Jira ticket references are displayed as proper smart links, while others are unexpectedly converted into plain text URLs.
• During this state, editing the table becomes very difficult because the content keeps refreshing and the cursor loses focus.
• As a result, adding or modifying text inside the table cells is frustrating and unreliable.

Expected Behavior:

• All Jira ticket references should render consistently as smart links.
• The table should remain stable without blinking or refreshing during editing.
• Users should be able to edit table cells without interruptions or cursor jumps.

Actual Behavior:

• The table continuously blinks while editing.
• Jira links randomly switch between smart links and plain text.
• Editing text inside the affected cells is difficult due to the unstable editor.

This appears consistent with an existing Confluence Cloud editor bug in which tables rapidly flicker when a user clicks into a row or cell.

The inconsistent rendering of the Jira link may be a related but separate issue. Atlassian also has an open bug where Jira URLs placed into existing Confluence tables don’t consistently convert into Smart Links.

I’d vote for and watch both issues, then ask your site administrator to open an Atlassian Support case. Include the affected page URL, a screen recording of the flickering, your browser and version, whether it reproduces in a private window, and whether the problem occurs when only one person is editing the page.

As a temporary precaution, I’d avoid making substantial edits while the table is flickering because the repeated refreshes and cursor movement could make it easy to change the wrong cell. Converting the affected Jira references to simple inline links may reduce the Smart Link rendering activity, but it may not resolve the underlying table flicker.
