Issue created in JIRA but doesn't show in Confluence against highlighted text

When I highlight some text on a confluence page I get the 'create issue' option, confirm details and click 'create'.

The issue is created in JIRA almost instantly and the confluence page auto refreshes. When it reloads next to the highlighted text I get the wait spinner with 'getting issue details'.

It then hangs. I've tried refreshing the page and get the same 'getting issue details'. I go to another page and come back and still the same. I can the edit the page and one of two things happens:

1) going into edit mode seems to help complete the 'connection' and when I update the page (having not made any changes) the link works fine

2) when I update and the page reloads the link goes completely (issue in JIRA still remains). 

Appreciate any ideas. On Free plan for Confluence but paid standard plan on JIRA.
