Confluence version: 5.10.9
Typical Word Document size: 60KB but can be as large as 160KB.
My firm has several hundred file specifications that we exchange with our partners. We have found that using the Office Word macro to display the content of these file provides the best representation of the original content. Importing the documents renders very poorly. In addition, attaching each file to a page allows us to see exactly what is in a particular version of a file without having to maintain separate versions of each document, i.e., a Word Document version and a native Confluence Wiki version of the file.
If I create a page for each file specification, upload the file to the page, then view the file through the Office Word macro viewer, will this adversely impact our server to the extent that this strategy is discouraged?
Thanks, in advance, for any response.
Hi Gregory,
I am happy to hear the Word macro displays your documents in a satisfactory way. I agree that the attachment versioning is also a good feature.
The only server side constraint I can think of is disk space, as database attachment storage has been deprecated for a while. To double check where your attachments are stored please see Confluence administration>Attachment storage.
Thanks,
Ann
Thanks for the rapid response, Ann. I will have to research the strategy Confluence implements in this regard then see how our server is configured. I'm thinking that if storage space is the only drawback then this will be the ideal solution for us.
