Is it possible to edit all usernames and groupnames in XML site backup

Is it possible to edit the entities.xml file that is part of a full site XML backup?

I need to bulk change all usernames and groupnames while restoring a Confluence site.

The alternative to XML backup customization would be updating many database tables after backup import. This seem quite error prone to me.

Any suggestions on this topic are highly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @ninada,

Of course you can do that as XML is clear text.

You must take care to replace the names only in the right places.

Maybe using the REST API is an alternative, that will probably cause less problems. You can automate this API Calls and change all the users at once, and confluence itself will take care, that all places, where the username has to be changed,  will be affected.
