Is confluence suitable for managing a large number of documents in an enterprise? What is the impact of a large number of accessories on system operation?

Yes, I've seen it handle millions, if, by "documents" you mean you are using it as intended, with the "documents" are Confluence pages.

You do need some decent hardware if you want to have very large Confluences, but that's true of any system.
