Tomas Janota June 15, 2023

Hello,

I did installed Confulence package according to documentation and should continue through browser http://<server>:8090 but cannot access it.

Is there something I can check?

Regards, Tomas

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

What error messages do you get in the browser when you try to access the service?  The install process tells you it is running on "localhost", which means "this machine", so are you trying to access it from the local machine?  Does the server say the Confluence service is running?   If it is not, what errors are there in the log files?  (start with <confluence home>/logs/atlassian-confluence.log, then the other logs in that directory, and if they do not help, look to <confluence install>/logs/catalina.out)

Tomas Janota June 18, 2023

Thank you for the reply Nic,

The browser says the can't reach the page > server took too long to respond.

They installed RHEL server for me CLI only so I have to go over network however network team already confirmed it is not behind firewall. I can access over ssh and when trying http to it there are no packet drops on the firewall logs.

I do not see "confluence.log" in the log folder. Following the "catalina.out":

This looks like you have installed two Confluence systems and then copied one over the other.  One way to do this is to run the installer and tell it to install (rather than upgrade) a Confluence into the directories that you already have a Confluence installation in.

I think you need to start again - run the installer, but tell it to install Confluence in new empty directories (install and home), and with a new empty database.

Tomas Janota June 21, 2023

Hello Nic,

Actually I'm about to get dev instance which is the first one so there are no other instances.

Also I never reached the step where you are adding database because I just run installer > install it form scratch > then you are supposed to access it over the browser / add license / connect DB and so on but that is exactly which is not working means I cannot access it.

I found the when I disable firewall on it right after installation then I can access it over browser but since I cannot leave firewall disabled I followed this article Running Confluence with firewall on Linux | Confluence | Atlassian Documentation

After reboot I'm getting "connection refused" message in the browser.

Checking firewall the ports are open but is seems the service is not running after reboot of the server even the installer said following:

Confluence can be run in the background.

You may choose to run Confluence as a service, which means it will start

automatically whenever the computer restarts.

Install Confluence as Service?

Yes [y, Enter], No [n]

y

When I follow additional article Start and Stop Confluence | Confluence Data Center and Server 8.3 | Atlassian Documentation to start the service I'm getting following:

[root@chvconflu02 ~]# sudo /etc/init.d/confluence start
sudo: /etc/init.d/confluence: command not found

This implies a broken installation of Confluence.  Without looking at your file system, I can't work out what is wrong with it.  "command not found" suggests that the installation is not complete

"Connection refused" after reboot suggests that you did not persist the changes to the firewall.
