Inserting / deleting images

John Monahan January 2, 2019

We're using a new version of Confluence and having difficulty inserting / deleting and moving images around on pages.

For example, it's not possible to insert an image on the same line as text. I've tried to drag'n'drop and the wrap text option. I even tried to copy and paste from another page but got a Failed error message.

Previous versions of Confluence it was possible to easily insert and move an image as well as resize to fit the page.

Any suggestions or help is appreciated.

Hi John,

Could you let me know which version of Confluence you're using? Are you on Cloud, or a Server version?

Regards,

Shannon

Hello Shanon,

Thanks for the reply.

We're using the Cloud version.

John

Thank you, John.

Is this while using the new editor? I'm trying it on my instance with the new editor, and I was able to do so using wrap:

I had to select the image first, and then the wrap option which you can see in the screenshot. In addition, it didn't work until I resized the image enough to be compatible with the page.

Can you confirm if you're seeing the same?

Regards,

Shannon

Cute dog. Yours?

Yes it is using the new editor which is very limited compared to the old editor.

The wrap option and left, right or center option isn't suitable if one is trying to insert a image / icon between 2 words on a line of text. With the older version this was possible.

I just finished a GoToMeeting with 2 of your colleagues and, unfortunately, certain features from the older version may or may not be added to the new editor.

In my opinion, this is a case of it wasn't broken so somebody decided to break it thinking they were fixing it.

Thanks for your help!

John,

He is, thank you!

As for the missing feature, I do know that the reason for many of the editing improvements is to ensure a visually pleasing experience across multiple platforms. This way, you could look at a Confluence page on mobile, Windows, Mac, Linux, and various resolutions, and the pages would still look as expected. For this reason, I am not confident that this particular feature would be brought back, as inline images can often cause display issues depending on your browser.

If my colleagues didn't mention, I would recommend still sending feedback via the menu option on the bottom left-hand corner of Confluence. This goes right to the development team and they're interested to know which features people are using, and any feedback on the new ones.

For a workaround, depending on the size of the image you need to add, perhaps you could upload it as an emoji?

Hello Shannon,

In my opinion the new changes really stink

I add an image and it doesn't display.

This has become a horrible user experience.

Google new confluence sucks and you'll see that i'm not alone.

Be well.

John,

Please rest assured I do know you are not alone, as I hear lots of feedback from customers all the time regarding the changes.

I really do encourage you to send the feedback directly to the team as I suggested before. Thank you for your understanding!

Regards,

Shannon
