How to upgrade Confluence from 5.3.1 to the latest

Given the recent security advistory, i would like to upgrade my confluence 5.3.1 to the latest version. I have a JIRA installation also. What is the step by step procedure for doing these upgrades?

This should be very simple because you're using a recent Confluence version.
