How to speed up Confluence on the client side?

gtirloni May 15, 2019

We use Confluence Cloud and a simple page takes 15 seconds to load for the first time. The browser makes 653 requests and downloads 14MB of data.

After the first load, the pages loads in 8 seconds. Still, 653 requests but only ~90KB is transferred this time. Why doesn't Atlassian pack all CSS/JS files into fewer assets?

Content is being served from the nearest CloudFront edge location but it doesn't seem enough. There are a lot of requests to atlassian.net endpoints and other 3rd-parties.

Does anyone know about any tricks to make it less sluggish? It's not only loading a page but everything feels slow.

Hello Giovanni,

Thank you for contacting us! This is definitely not the desired behavior in Cloud. We'd like to have a look at your instance for you in order to see what might be causing unexpected performance issues.

Could you please raise a ticket with our Cloud Support team? That way we can have a look at your specific instance and see what the problem might be.

When creating the case, please include a copy of a HAR file that you generate when the page load is slow.

For information on how to do that, please see Generating HAR files and Analyzing Requests.

Regards,

Shannon
