How to save versions of a Word document in Page History?

I want to use Confluence to keep older versions of procedural documents.  However, when I upload the word document and edit it using Atlassian Companion app, the version history only saves the very latest version of the document.  Is there a way I can keep several versions saved on the one page without having to create a new page for each one?
